Tom:

I finally got a chance to see Journey perform at the Beacon Theatre in Manhattan and they were excellent. The new singer pulled it off and the band was very solid. The new singer Steve Augeri dances around alittle weird but sounds like Steve Perry.

My opinion Steve Perry is much better.......I had a chance to see him perform back in 94'. He's the best..

Steve:

Let me start by saying that when I first heard of Journey going on without Perry, I was a bit skeptical. But nonetheless, I was curious to hear how the new Journey would sound. The recent good reviews I've read here made me more enthused to see them. After seeing them last night at the Beacon in NYC, WOW!!!! What a GREAT show!! Steve A. has a great voice, not much unlike Perry (the others I went with, who haven't followed what has been going on with the band as much as myself, agree). He seemed very comfortable on stage and looked liked he was having fun. And Deen was awesome on drums also. There was a lull, crowd wise, through the middle portion of the set, where many people sat. This was during some of the instrumentals and TBF songs. But from WITS through the last encore, they were rocking!! Everyone downstairs where I sat (24th row directly in front of Neal) were on their feet dancing and singing. Steve A. came out for the encore wearing a Yankees shirt of course. And we were treated to an extra song in the second encore. They followed When You Love a Woman with Ask the Lonely.

Jon, Neal and Ross were great as usual. I especially liked Jon's vocals on Just the Same Way and Anytime. He sounded amazingly like Rolie and it was great hearing these old songs.

All I have to say is, if you have a chance to see them in your area, GO!! They won't disappoint. Even if your a big Perry fan, you need to see them. I'll miss Perry too, but Steve A. is great in his own right and I look forward to the new album.

Mike:

I must admit that I initially went only to see Neal, Jon and Ross, but I was definitely impressed with Steve Augeri.

I did see all the guys go into the Beacon before the show (Jon, Neal and Ross were nice enough to stop and sign an album).

In fact, Steve Augeri came before the others. A guy hanging with us didn't know that Steve Perry wasn't with the band anymore-and he was upset. When Steve Augeri came by, Liz got his autograph-as he was going in, and the guy yelled at him "You've got some big shoes to fill!" A great comment, but to Steve's credit, he took it as a given and replied "I know, man." He was respectful and handled it well. In fact, the tone in his reply showed that he understands what it means to replace Steve Perry.

I sat the row behind all 150 of Steve Augieri's family-they all seemed very happy for him. I don't know if they were Journey fans prior to Steve joining the band, but some of them were singing along with the rest of us-

The guys played great! I was impressed with Steve Augieri's singing too. He was a showman and made it seem cool to dance to Journey-

Another part of the show that impressed me was Jon Cain. He played great and the man can sing too-

The song list was great-and the guys did a metal instrumental at one point that blew me away.

There was a guy there wearing a Steve Perry "Strange Medicine" shirt (he probably thought Steve Perry was with the band)-and Neal saw it at one point during the show. Neal smiled at the guy and gave him a thumbs up-

Neal played brilliantly-as usual. Ross was having a great time and Deen Castronovo was an animal.

The guys put on a great show.

Julio Lopez:

Just thought i would let everybody know about the beacon concert journey held on oct. 28. They Kicked major but!!!

When I heard perry would not be with them, i wanted a refund, but then decided to give this new guy a shot. Glad i did!!

After Seperate ways, (which they opened with), my friend turned to me and said he sounds just like steve perry, and i said, steve who??(ha ha ha) Just kidding!! I love perry, and while sad to see him not with journey, i had one of the most greatest times at a concert in a while!!!

In all, Journey '98 kicks ass!!!
