Bronco Bowl
December 5, 1998
Brandy Appleton:
Fresh from the Journey Concert at the Bronco bowl in Dallas, Dec. 5, 1998!! I was moved to tears with every song. Steve Augeri did a great job of front man. I thought there is now way it will ever be the same without Steve Perry but I was very impressed! Augeri sounded great!! The band had alot of energy and a great sound. The 40.00 bucks I paid for the ticked was paid for in the first 30 min. The music was classic, the band was great, I felt like I went back to my teen years it just took me back! Don't miss the tour if you have a chance to see it.
Don Craig:
Just woke up the day after the Journey show in Dallas. Its been over 15 years since I saw these guys last and it was hard to believe as I entered the "Bronco Bowl" that I was about to see my favorite performers. I flew down 4 hours from Calgary earlier in the day and re-arranged a whole business trip just to get here for this show and I was not disappointed. The near sold out crowd of 3200 was LOUD! No it wasn't Augeri saying it, I've been to dozens of concerts with 16,000 people, and this was definately a heart felt outpouring towards the band.
I won't re-hash the set list since its been done before. Like most shows i've read about, only about 1/2 of the crowd was on its feet at the beginning and during less popular numbers most of the crowd sat down, listened and waited patiently for the next chance to get up and shout. So songs like Seperate Ways, Escape,Stone In Love, Open Arms did the job. Only the Young and (surprisingly) Girl Can't Help It were the ones where the crowd took a break.
Steve A is outstanding! No one in the crowd was concerned about the "replacement" (or Clone as the Arlington paper called him this morning) and though it took him a few songs to feel comfortable out there, the last half of the show he was the definite showman and took control of the show. Neal began the show with those sunglasses on (never took 'em off, whats the deal Neal?). Neal was having a great time pandering to the beautiful Texas gals in the front row and they were returning the favor! His solos were incredible to watch and being only 8 rows away from the stage I got a much greater appreciation for the speed and technique that he uses. The "boogie" instrumental that they do was a highlight of the show..do not hit the washroom during this, it was one of the musical highlights of the show (of which there were many).
The best song of the night, no doubt was Faithfully. The emotion from the crowd and the band was intense, electric. There were 8 women behind me crying! Something really clicked in that song. In the band, you could just feel that that song clicked everyone was into it. The crowd did not want it to end (it was the second song ofthe first encore). A painfully loud ovation followed and they came back and kicked off the 2nd encore with Chain Reaction (by this time I was in the front row at the stage) and was right in front of the always clowning Ross who (like everyone else has said) just seems to be having a ton of fun! During the solos I watched him joking around with the road crew to the side of the stage, its no act, this guy is so happy to be out there playing in front of people and leavingwhatever else he was dealing with behind him.
What can I say, I'm on a high. Can't hear anything, but a high. I took lots of pics at the show and I'm hopingthey'll turn out well enough to show everyone! I'll join every other review by saying if you have not got a ticket and they are coming...GO! Reunion type of situations don't usually last long and as much as I love the band, I don't anticipate seeing them playing live again. So it was with some sadness that after the final song I joined the other adopted Texans and waved goodbye probably for the last time and thanked them for a lifetime of music that I'll always consider to be part of me.

I am a security guy, this was my last concert and I finally took my wife. I introduced her to the band and knowing how other bands have been I wasn't sure how this was going to go. I have been a journey fan and Steve A. is a wonderful singer I was very iimpressed with his his showmanship. I walked him out to his bus and my wife was with me and the guy gave her a bunch of roses from me. A wonderful musical night.
I have done a lot of concerts this year in the Dallas area from marilyn manson to 38 special and the talent displayed from the show was unequaled. I would recommend this concert to anyone who can go, it was great seeing my wife being star struck by meeting the band when no other fans were around, something that only a few people experience. Now I now why everyone I meet at concerts beg and try to bribe me to get them backstage only getting rude comments or dirty looks from me, I am trying to be a nicer person now. Looking forward to the new cd, which I was told by the band will be all new songs and due out this summer with a new tour which will include the dallas area.
