Vacation's Over Tour

Charlotte, NC
Ovens Auditorium
November 3rd, 1998

Another fellow fan letting you know how the concert was....

I've seen Journey in 1983, and 1986 in Charlotte and thought I would never see them again.

I bought tickets the day they went on sale for the Charlotte (my girlfriend is 26 and had never been to a Journey concert)

She and I had a FANTASTIC TIME! SOME GOOD THINGS NEVER COME TO AN END!! The concert was the best I have seen/heard in along time. I plan on going to Greensboro to see them again.

I hope they continue to tour with the new lead singer(If Steve Perry is a 100 this guy is a 98!)

I was so hyped up from the concert I couldn't go to sleep until 1:00 am the next morning, and have been playing Journey songs at an increased level ever since.

Michael Handy:

I saw the Charlotte show last night. The band was great! Steve Augeri is a an excellent "fill in" for Steve Perry. If you were lead into the show with a blind fold on, you could not tell the difference! (I saw the band in '86). On the whole, the band was tight. Neil and Jonathan were true to form from past tours/videos.

Steve Augeri could have done more to pump up/include the crowd with the songs. The band is older, but they haven't missed a beat on their classics. Definitely some receding hair lines in the band now :-) . They even played two Greg Rolie classics... "Just the Same Way" and "Anytime" which haven't been played in a long time.

There should have been more promotion with this tour. So many people I've talked to were not aware of the tour. Without Steve Perry, the band may suffer an identity problem until they release a new CD with new material. If they were wise, in my opinion, they should have released a new CD this winter, promoted it with air play and videos. Then hit the tour scene next spring- summer at open air theatre venues around the country with the rest of the summer shows. I just got the feeling that the tour was rushed and put together hastily without promotion.

Anyway, all in all a great show if you are a true fan. Don't miss it!

Michael Handy:

The show was incredible...there's no other word for it. Other than Kansas in 1994, this is the best concert out of 50+ that I've ever seen. Steve Augeri had me leaving the auditorium saying "I could've sworn they had another singer named Steve, but I can't for the life of me remember who." His voice was actually stronger at the end of the 2hr. 15min. show than it was at the beginning. All 5 guys looked to be having the time of their lives. It was a real treat to hear Jonathan Cain on lead vox for a couple of songs, and all four frontment sharing the MC role between songs. This is something that would never have happened during the previous regime. The set list was pretty much the same, the only exception is that "Just the Same Way" was substituted for "Feelin' That Way." If you have the chance to see these guys live on this tour, DO IT!!!
