Kimberly Serna:
What could I say that hasn't already been said before? It was an incredible
concert. Being a Steve Perry fan, I still had my doubts even after reading
all of the other reviews. I couldn't help but wonder how Journey could
perform without him. My doubts were soon put to rest. Steve Augeri did such
a wonderful job; you almost forgot that Steve Perry wasn't with the group.
My friend commented, "It's like Steve Perry reincarnated". Don't get me
wrong. I would still love to see Journey with Steve Perry, but I will
definitely see them again with Steve Augeri.
They started the show with Separate Ways and Only The Young. During these
two songs, if you were to close your eyes and just listen to the music, you
would have sworn that it was Steve Perry singing. It was unbelievable. By
the middle of the show, quite a few fans were up on their feet, clapping and
swaying to the music. It was apparent that Albuquerque had welcomed Steve
Augeri to the group. The night rocked on.....ending with one encore of Don't
Stop Believin' and Faithfully.
If you were unable to catch them on this tour, don't miss them next year.
Even if you're a die-hard Steve Perry fan, you won't be disappointed.
Journey is back!
Jim Keefner:
What a night it was in Albuquerque! Journey still is just about the
greatest sounding group - both instrumentally and with their vocals. Like
every show, they opened with Separate Ways and Steve Augeri proved he is a
very capable replacement for Steve Perry. One cannot overlook Dean, their new
drummer whose back-up vocals and super-fast drum licks impressed all in
attendance. Throughout the concert, my wife and I seemed to sense that the
band, especially Steve Augeri, was trying earnestly to see if the "new" group
was pleasing the crowd. Between songs or while Neal was busting strings on a
solo, Steve would lean out and question the frenzied crowd about whether we
liked what we saw and heard. Certainly, Albquerque was very pleased and hope
that Ross was telling the truth that they'd be back next summer!!!
Their set of songs followed what everyone else has reported. At about the
middle of the show, they "cranked" on a tune Neal Schon called "Fillmore
Boogie". Between his guitar and Dean's drums, they could have put on a 2 hour
show! Throughout the show, Ross Valory was up to his fun loving antics -
making funny faces and establishing eye contact with just about everyone
there. His effort helped make it a special evening for all who felt they
connected with Ross.
The bottom-line is "Go see Journey"! Get the best seat you can and expect
to be rocked & entertained. You won't be disappointed!
