Here is an updated press release approved by Steve Perry, Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon (sent to me again by Lora Beard):
SINGER, STEVE PERRY AND JOURNEY OFFICIALLY GO THEIR "SEPARATE WAYS"
In January 1998, a conversation between Jonathan Cain and Steve Perry
took place. The conclusion of which was that if Steve Perry’s health
issues would not allow him to commit to a tour at that time, then
Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon would reform with a new singer. Drummer,
Steve Smith is also no longer with the group.
Perry became the lead singer of Journey in 1977 and, over the past two
decades, sang on the group’s 10 platinum-plus albums including the 1996
Trial By Fire CD. Journey, with Steve Perry as vocalist, have sold over
45 million records worldwide. Steve Perry has currently worked with
David Foster and Carole Bayer-Sager in writing and recording the title
track "I Stand Alone" for the soundtrack in the animated feature "Quest
For Camelot."
Journey is currently comprised of new lead singer Steve Augeri, original
guitarist Neal Schon, bassist Ross Valory, keyboardist Jonathan Cain (a
1981 addition) and new drummer Deen Castronovo (formerly of Bad English
- the 80’s super-group which also featured Schon and Cain). The new
Journey lineup has already recorded "Remember Me" a track for the
soundtrack for the upcoming summer blockbuster film Armageddon.
"Remember Me" was written by Neal Schon and Jack Blades and was produced
by Kevin Shirley (who also produced Trial By Fire). The Armageddon
soundtrack will be released by Columbia Records on June 30th.
Plans for a new Journey album, as well as a summer tour of Japan and a
subsequent tour of the States, are in the works.
