Here is an edited version of the Modern Drummer article on Steve Smith. I did not include everything in the article, because it was technical at times plus the fact that it was a very long article.March 8, 1997
Joe Wydock was able to locate an on-line music store, Guitar One-Stop, that sells a Journey guitar tablature book."Journey - The Guitar Collection" includes Any Way You Want It, Be Good To Yourself, Don't Stop Believin', Escape, Faithfully, Girl Can't Help It, Lights, Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin', Only The Young, Open Arms, Send Her My Love, Seperate Ways (Worlds Apart), Still They Ride, Stone In Love, Wheel In The Sky, and Who's Crying Now.Lora Beard, from Journey Force / SPIN, informed me that Jonathan, Neal and Ross will be attending the upcoming Bay Area Music Awards (BAMMIES) on March 15th. Sadly, there are no plans for them to perform live or to present any awards. Journey is nominated for: Outstanding Song (When You Love A Woman), Outstanding Group, Outstanding Guitarist, Outstanding Drummer/Percussionist, and Outstanding Keyboardist/Synthesist. Becky posted information to the Journey mailing list that she obtained from Neal's Step dad. He says that Steve Perry will have to have hip surgery, which will further delay the tour. And, yes, there will be a tour. In the mean time Neal and Jon plan to work on a musical score for a movie (title unknown at this time).
Kenny Loggins will release a greatest hits package titled "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: The Greatest Hits" and includes the duet with Steve Perry, "Don't Fight It." I believe the release date is March 25, 1997. Thanks to Jackie Morgan for informing me.

Gail Collier found this in the Chart Beat section of Billboard Online for March 15, 1997."Journey, who has scored a major hit with its first album in 10 years, "Trial By Fire," will not be touring this summer behind the platinum project. According to sources, lead singer Steve Perry, who hurt his hip on vacation quite some time ago, is not up to touring. Perry"s "medical options are being researched," says a source, and an announcement regarding his condition will be made within a few weeks."March 10, 1997

A reminder, Journey's new album, Trial By Fire, is nominated for the Third Annual Blockbuster Entertainment Awards to be held tonight (Tuesday, March 11). Journey is nominated under the category of 'Group - Classic Rock.' The other two nominees are The Beatles (Anthology 2 & 3) and Van Halen (Best Of Volume 1). The show will be televised on UPN. Sadly, Journey did not win last nights award at the Third Annual Blockbuster Entertainment Awards. Just like the Grammies, The Beatles took the honors.March 13, 1997

Today, I spoke with an associate at Irving Azoff's office. No new information, as usual. I also called last week and received the same response. And the time before that he was "out of town." So, it seems even I can't get any real news from Journey management.March 18, 1997

Reminder, Abraxas Pool's self titled, debut album will be released tomorrow in the United States by MIRAMAR Records. Abraxas Pool features Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie, with Michael Shrieve, Michael Carrabello, Jose Chepito, and Alphonso Johnson.Also released tomorrow is Kenny Loggins' greatest hits album, "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: The Greatest Hits." The album includes the duet with Steve Perry "Don't Fight It."
