David Bailes, a producer of nationally syndicated radio programs with a company called MediaAmerica, e-mailed me yesterday. He has produced a 2 part / 2 hour "Journey: Up Close" special.
"It's an in depth profile of the band's life and music and is based on interviews we have with them starting back in the early 1980's all the way up to an interview Dan Neer of WNEW New York did with Steve, Jonathan and Neal about three weeks ago out in LA. The show will be aired on two consecutive weeks beginning the week of 1/13/97. There is also interview with Gregg Rolie and Steve Smith."

He suggests for everyone to call their local radio station for the exact day and time (and to check if they will actually air the special). David is open to feedback from listeners and can be reached at Decibailes@aol.com.

Yesterday's IRC chat was a big success. Although, we did suffer from 'lag' and 'netspilts.' To help prevent the lag/netspilt for future chats Mike has suggested for everyone to use the IRC server 'Hughes.net,' which is an isolated server.

There is another hidden movie (from the behind-the-scenes of TBF) located on Sony Music's Journey site. Here is the direct link.

Steve Perry has updated the SPIN Hotline message again (and probably for the last time). You can listen to the message by calling 415-597-6633. Here is the transcript from the recording, transcribed by myself.
"Hi this is the Steve Perry Hotline. Hi this is Steve Perry and as most of you know Journey is back together again and Neal, Jonathan, Ross, Steve Smtih and myself are participating in the new Trial By Fire -- Journey -- CD.

And that means there's no reason to have a Steve Perry hotline at this time. So, if you want to find out what's going on with me or anything to do with Journey the best place is at the Journey web site. The URL is http://www.music.sony.com/. And, that web site is full of amazing amounts of information and we'll probably be contributing to it pretty quick.

So, see you on the web site and I hope to see you soon. Take care."

Thanks to Ted Pruitt and Jackie Vece for informing me. BTW, on Mike's Unofficial Journey Page you can now hear the entire message in Real Audio and in WAV format.

Last week Comair Commuter plane flight 3272 crashed near Detroit, Michigan. Sadly, 29 lives were lost in this tragedy. This past monday, an emotional memorial service was held at the crash site by the family members of the deceased. As reported in the Detroit Free Press and also a Toledo based newspaper, one of the family members requested that 'Open Arms, by the rock group Journey' be played at the ceremony by the crash site. Thanks to Janetg0810@aol.com and Mike Sorrentino.

Today I spoke with Journey manager, Irving Azoff. He says the tour plans are still on hold while Steve Perry continues to recuperate from his hip injury. Sadly, there is the possibility that they may not tour as a result, although Steve Perry is really eager to tour.

A few weeks ago 'Can't Tame The Lion' was officially released as the third single from the album and distributed to rock stations. During the third week of February 'If He Should Break Your Heart' will be officially released to contemporary stations.

I asked him if Journey plans to make any live television appearances (e.g. Tonight Show or Late Nite), but they have no plans to do anything like that at the moment. He also mentioned that they will not be appearing on the American Music Awards next week.

Finally, I suggested to him to look into scheduling an On-line chat session such as with American On-Line or Compuserve. So, that could be a possibility for the near future.

Mike says a reliable source posted a message to the AOL bulletin board saying that Neal's new CD will be released in two parts. The first, "Tribe Of Schon," will be out in May, 1997.

I've also heard that Jonathan Cain will also release a new CD later this year, but I don't have any details yet.
