Previous Journey News

December 1, 1996

Terje Dokken found this article in a recent issue of Frontiers Magazine (December issue).
"STEVE PERRY - ROCK VICTIM? Journey's US tour, which was originally planned for the start of the new year, has had to be shelved indefinitely due to Steve Perry damaging his hip when he fell during a rock climb. Some reports suggest that Steve has had to have surgery, while others ruminate that this is simply an excuse to cover up something potentially more damaging to the sales of the new record."

Today I talked with Irene, from Irving Azoff's office (Journey's manager) and reported that Steve Perry is doing much better. Steve and the rest of the band finished the promtional video for When You Love A Woman, which was shipped to VH1 and MTV today. So, call them and request the video! There is no new news about the tour. They're still hoping for a spring or early summer tour. Journey will make a few radio/television appearances in LA next week. I hope to find out more details about where and when.

Journey's first single When You Love A Woman reached Gold status (500,000 units).

My Journey Tribute Page was awarded the HitsWorld #1 Artist Site Award.

Frank Benenati has started his own Journey web site.

Here is Rick Tasher's review of the House of Blues show (Dec 2 - Chicago), which included Les Paul with special guests Neal Schon and Slash.

On the Sony Music web site Kevin Brace located the Quicktime (MOV) movie for the Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) promotional video. It's located in the Greatest Hits section, under the Separate Ways credits.

There is a rumour that Neal and Ross will make a guest appearance on Nash Bridges, Friday December 13. And I've also heard that Neal and Jonathan will be releasing another CD through Higher Octave Music sometime next year.

The promotional video for When You Love A Woman debuted on VH1 yesterday at 8 a.m. EST. Sadly, VH1 didn't give an introduction before playing the video.

Neal and Ross made a very short appearance on Nash Bridges Friday night (at the end of the show). Jeanne R. Berry wrote a great description of the scene:
"YEP! Neal and Ross WERE indeed on Nash Bridges, Friday, December 13th! But you had to look closely at the very end, and if you blinked, well...there will be re-runs! For those who blinked...or missed it and are waiting for re-runs, here's a play-by-play:

In the closing scenes of the show, the Precinct is holding an impromptu Christmas party for a group of social services kids who were inadvertently left at the police station on Christmas Eve. Clarence Clemons, saxaphone player for the Boss (Bruce Springsteen), plays a shady sax man who does Cheech Marin's character (Nash's partner) a favor. It's a long story, and a significant part of the plot line, therefore I won't go into details. Cheech and Clemons entertain the gang and children at the Christmas party; Cheech sings and plays guitar and they jam on Springsteen's version of "Santa Claus is Comin' To Town". The backup band features none other than Journey's Neal Schon on guitar and bassist Ross Valory--both dressed as COPS and Carmine Appice on drums. Very cool. Not enough air time for our boys, but WE know who they are!"

The complete transcript from the MIX 107.3 (Washington D.C.) interview is available. Special thanks to Jackie Morgan, who transcribed the interview.

Steve, Neal, and Jonathan held their satellite interview on WPLJ 95.5 (New York) this morning. Some of the things they talked about was Steve's hip injury, upcoming tour to New York (Steve says maybe in the summer of 1997), and announced that "If He Should Break Your Heart" will be the next single release from Trial By Fire. Unfortunately the interview was only five minutes long and fans did not get to ask any questions. Thanks to Patrick Lombardi for the information.

Two more satellite interviews are scheduled for this week.

During the Houston interview yesterday Steve Perry said that MTV is not interested in playing the video for When You Love A Woman. Everyone can vent their anger by calling MTV at 1-800-DIALMTV or e-mailing them at feedback@mtv.com. Thanks to Mike Sorrentino (and the Unofficial Journey Homepage) for the information.

Since it is getting close to the end of the year I decided to type up a Journey time-line for 1996. I've also started working on Journey's complete time-line, but it will take some time before I can finish it.

And, of course, have a safe and happy New Year!
